What is Hibernation™? Hibernation is comprised of 100% pure L-Tryptophan, an amino acid essential for normal growth and metabolism. It is a precursor to serotonin, melatonin, and niacin. Highly recognized for more than a quarter century for its health benefits, L-Tryptophan is beneficial for

  • Maintaining good health

  • Normalizing Sleep

  • Relieving Poor Moods & Irritability

  • L-Tryptophan may also relieve symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, aggression, nervousness, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and migraines…many of the same symptoms that are being treated in humans and animals with SSRI’s.

    What are SSRI's?
Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRI’s) are among the most heavily prescribed drugs in history for heading off depression in the early stages. SSRI’s cannot produce serotonin and they cannot replace L-Tryptophan. Many patients on SSRI’s continue to show deficiency symptoms.

    Why should I use L-Tryptophan?
Plasma amino-acid profiles of hundreds of patients demonstrate that L-Tryptophan may be the amino acid most lacking our diet. No other amino acid, vitamin, mineral, herb or drug can take the place of L-Tryptophan. L-Tryptophan is a building block for health and is routinely added to baby food, where it is essential for growth, and to intravenous solutions (IV’s) where it is essential for life.

    Sources of L-Tryptophan
Foods that are considered sources of L-Tryptophan are dairy products, beef, poultry, barley, brown rice, fish, soy beans, and peanuts. Because L-Tryptophan is the least abundant amino acid in our diet, the supplementation of L-Tryptophan has been widely used to correct deficiencies for more than a quarter of a century by doctors in the United States and Europe. Psychiatrists, medical doctors, and nutritionists, alike, have long recognized the importance of pure L-Tryptophan for maintaining good heath.

Is L-Tryptophan safe as a dietary supplement?
Yes, L-Tryptophan was a very popular sleeping aid in the U.S. until recently, and was also used for premenstrual syndrome and depression. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) placed an Import Alert on this products in 1990 when one Japanese manufacturer sent several contaminated batches to the US. Our supplier has been thoroughly and independently tested and provides one of the purest L-Tryptophan products in the world today.

What are the benefits of using Hibernation?
  • Maintaining good health

  • Relieving poor mood and irritability

  • Normalizing sleep

  • Reduces premenstrual symptoms

  • Relieves muscle pain from exercise

  • Soothes nervous irritability

  • Supports a good mood

  • Aids addiction recovery

  • L-Tryptophan is also helpful for a broader range of symptoms known as ‘serotonin deficiency syndrome’ which may manifest as depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, aggression, nervousness, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and migraines…many of the same symptoms that are being treated in humans and animals with SSRI’s.

    Dosage
Available in 500 mg capsules. Each capsule contains 500 mg of pure, pharmaceutical-grade L-Tryptophan, USP. Capsules are made from gelatin. L-Tryptophan is manufactured through a natural fermentation process without the use of synthetic chemicals or toxic solvents.

    Recommended Supplementation
When L-Tryptophan is indicated, a common dosage is one 500 mg capsule for every 50 lbs of body weight, one hour before bedtime, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Dosage may be reduced as sleep improves. When indicated, allow sixty days for optimal results. With any new supplement, it is best to start with a low dose and work up to the desired dose gradually. Also, because several other amino acids may compete with L-Tryptophan for absorption, it is best given with a beverage or a snack containing minimal protein. Do not exceed six capsules (three grams) per day unless directed by your doctor.

Although some symptoms of an L-Tryptophan deficiency may disappear quickly, others may take time to show improvement. Essential amino acids are involved in a myriad of structural proteins and enzymes, as well as neurotransmitters, and so replacement may take time.

    L-Tryptophan and healthy nerves
As long as we can remember, medical researchers have insisted that when nerve cells die they are not replaced. But today, in laboratories around the world, this belief is being proven wrong, and we find that the brain, like every other organ in the body, can and does grow new cells. Of great interest to researchers is the hippocampus, the region of the brain that is associated with learning and memory loss. Researchers at Princeton University have focused on factors that can actually stimulate cell growth in the hippocampus region of the brain. Perhaps the most promising of these factors is the neurotransmitter, serotonin, the natural metabolite of L-Tryptophan.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Where does L-Tryptophan come from?
Answer: Tryptophan is produced in a laboratory by means of a complex fermentation process that produces the L-Tryptophan molecule. It is a closely guarded process that only a few labs in the world are capable of and are found primarily in Japan and China.

Question: Is L-Tryptophan the ONLY ingredient in these capsules?
Answer: Yes. Our product has no ingredients or incipients added, it is 100% pure.

Question: How will L-Tryptophan effect Sleep Apnea?
Answer: L-Tryptophan may help improve sleep to the degree that the person is able to rest without cessation of breathing.

Question: Can you take other medications with L-Tryptophan?
Answer: Consult your physician if you are taking any other medications. Not recommended for use with MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
